Nestled in the serene residential area of Kampung Baru, Sungkai, Malaysia, Restoran Sun Kee (Salted Chicken) is a hidden gem that beckons food enthusiasts with its comforting and rustic offerings. Renowned primarily for its exquisite salted chicken, this establishment invites diners to embark on a flavorful journey marked by culinary tradition and meticulous preparation. When you spot the firewood stacked outside, you'll know you've arrived at a place where authenticity reigns supreme.
The star of the menu, the Salted Chicken, is a marvel of flavors. Baked in a charcoal fire, the chicken emerges moist and tender, infused with a delightful smoky aroma that captivates the senses. Enveloped in a crunchy salt crust, it locks in the juices, resulting in a richly savory experience with every bite. This dish is simple yet profoundly flavorful—its depth is a testament to the skill and dedication of the chefs at Restoran Sun Kee.
Accompanying the star dish, the stir-fried paku pakis and sweet potato are equally impressive. The vegetables are vibrant and fresh, cooked to perfection, offering a delicious contrast to the rich chicken. They add a delightful crunch and a burst of flavor that complements the heartiness of the salted chicken.
While the food shines with authenticity and taste, it’s worth noting that the service might not always match the same caliber. However, the overall dining atmosphere is homey and nostalgic, offering a comforting space reminiscent of family gatherings and traditional meals. Reservations are highly advised, especially during weekends, as the popularity of Restoran Sun Kee can lead to a lengthy wait time.
In conclusion, Restoran Sun Kee (Salted Chicken) stands out as a culinary sanctuary for those seeking an authentic Chinese dining experience in Malaysia. The harmonious blend of flavors, especially in their salted chicken dish, is not just a meal—it's a memory in the making. Make sure to visit this treasure and witness the rich, savory, and rustic delights that await you.

Hidden in a residential area, but you’ll know you’re at the right spot when you see the firewood stacked outside. The salted chicken is really good, aromatic, dry (not the usual watery kind) with that salty garlic paste that hits just right. Stir fried paku pakis also didn’t disappoint. Service? Meh… could be better.

The food is good. We ordered wood salt baked chicken and sweet potato (wood burnt) and sambal paku pakis. Advised to order in advance, especially if you are visiting in weekend. The restaurant is closed on Monday. If Monday is public holiday, they will closed on Tuesday indeed.
